Learn Japanese for Work or Study

To start learning Japanese as a beginner, focus on the three basic scripts (Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji), as well as basic vocabulary and everyday phrases. You can use easy and interactive apps, websites, or online resources. Also, don't forget to practice listening and speaking, and apply what you learn in your daily life.

Here are some steps you can take to get started:

  1. Learn Hiragana and Katakana
  • Hiragana: A phonetic system used to write Japanese words and also as filler syllables not written in Kanji. Hiragana has a curvier and softer writing style
  • Katakana: Also a phonetic system, but more often used to write foreign words and for emphasis. Katakana has a more emphatic writing style
  1. Basic Vocabulary:
  • Greetings : Konnichiwa (こんにちは - Hello), Arigatou (ありがとう - Thank you), Sumimasen (すみません - Excuse me).
  • Question words: Doko desu ka? (どこですか? - Where?), Nan desu ka? (なんですか? - What?), Koko (ここ - Here).
  • Everyday phrases: Hai (はい - Yes), Iie (いいえ - No), Omedetou (おめでとう - Congratulations).
  1. Learn from Interactive Resources, such as:
  • Apps: Japanese language apps like Memrise, JapanesePod101, LingoDeer, Busuu, Drops, and many others are available

  • Listen to Japanese songs: Japanese songs can help you understand proper intonation and pronunciation.
  • Practice speaking with someone who is fluent in Japanese: If you have the opportunity, practicing speaking with a native speaker will be very helpful.
  1. Focus on Grammar:
  • Sentence Structure: Subject, object, and verb. For example: Watashi (I), wa (subject particle), manga (manga), o (object particle), yomimasu (read).
  • Particles:
Wa, o, ga, ni, de, etc. These particles are important for determining the role of a word in a sentence.Additional tips to keep you motivated in learning Japanese:
